After their disappointing start to the Serie A campaign, Milan took on newly-promoted Venezia at San Siro on Saturday night.
Here’s what happened.
Milan banish early season woes with dominant display
Scorers: Hernández 2, Fofana 16′, Pulisic 25′ (PEN), Abraham 29′ (PEN)
Milan scored two first-half penalties to deliver a 4-0 win over newly-promoted Venezia at San Siro.
Under-fire boss Paulo Fonseca couldn’t have asked for a better start from his side when Theo Hernández linked up well with Rafael Leão and fired in between the legs of the goalkeeper from close range after just two minutes.
A goalmouth scramble saw Matteo Gabbia claim the second, before the strike was officially awarded to Youssouf Fofana.
When Tammy Abraham – making his full debut for Milan – was brought down in the box, Christian Pulisic converted to make it 3-0, and just four minutes later the Rossoneri had another penalty.
This time Rafael Leão was brought down in the box, with VAR indicating there was a stamp, and that meant another spot kick was awarded.
Into the second half and Venezia had a goal chalked off after Francesco Zampano had the ball in the back of the net, but Milan had done the work in the first half to secure the win.
