World champions Argentina were rocked by a defeat away to Paraguay in Thursday’s qualifier for the 2026 World Cup.
After Lautaro MartÃnez had opened the scoring for the away side, Paraguay drew level courtesy of a stunning bicycle kick from Torino’s Tony Sanabria, which gave goalkeeper Dibu MartÃnez no chance.
The hosts completed the turnaround with a goal from defender Omar Alderete early in the second half, and held on for a 2-1 win.
That cuts Argentina’s lead at the top of the qualification standings to three points.
