Ottawa police are investigating after a man was killed during a shooting in Ottawa’s east end on Friday night.
Police say the shooting occurred at approximately 10 p.m. in the 1700 block of Russell Road, a residential area between Industrial Avenue and Smyth Road.
Yousef Salaman, of Ottawa, 19, has been identified as the sole victim.
Evidence markers were seen lining the ground where the bullets went flying. Investigators have cordoned off the area where the violence unfolded.
Nearby residents expressed their shock and concerns on Saturday morning.
“I know the kids around this community and so sad because even that that kid was a good kid. I’d see him around all the time. He’s just a nice kid. It’s sad,” said Christine Fraser, who lives nearby.
“It breaks our community’s heart, honestly, it really does.”
Investigators are gathering evidence and going door-to-door to interview potential witnesses. Police have not provided any suspect descriptions or made any arrests.
“I’m not sure what happened exactly, but it’s horrible. It makes me more scared about my kids to go out actually,” said Hoda Elshikh, who lives in the community.
Investigators are seeking surveillance video from residents and persons who may have been in the area at the time of the incident.
