2 charged with stunt driving after motorcycle crash in Whitby

Two men have been charged with stunt driving after two motorcycles were seen weaving through traffic at high speeds in Whitby on Tuesday before one of them crashed.

The crash happened in the area of of Dundas Street W. and Lakeridge Road S. Police were called to the scene at about 3:05 p.m.

The motorcyclist who crashed suffered serious but non-life threatening injuries, Durham Regional Police said in a news release on Wednesday.

Police said he lost control of his motorcycle and veered off the roadway. He was taken to a trauma centre in the Toronto area.

“Further investigation determined that the motorcycle was being operated with no insurance, and a fake licence plate,” police said in the release.

The other man did not suffer any injuries, police added.

In addition to stunt driving, the first man, 20, has been charged with careless driving, driving a motor vehicle with no plates and operating a motor vehicle without insurance. The second man, 21, has been charged with careless driving. Both men are from Richmond Hill, police say.

Both men were released on provincial offence summons. Police said their licences have been suspended for 30 days and their motorcycles impounded for 14 days.
