Two adults died and a child is in critical condition after a head-on collision occurred on Saturday afternoon in Sainte-Hyacinthe, Que.
At around 3:30 p.m., a vehicle with a driver and three passengers collided with another vehicle, according to the Sûreté du Québec (SQ).
The incident took place on a curve of Route 235 — also known as rang Saint-André — near de la Grande-Ligne Road.
SQ spokesperson Élizabeth Marquis said the driver of the first vehicle, a man in his late 40s, was pronounced dead at the scene.
A woman in her early 30s who was in the same vehicle suffered major injuries and was declared dead at the hospital.
The other two passengers, children, were in critical condition when paramedics arrived. Sunday morning, Marquis said one of the children is now in stable condition.
The other motorist, a woman in her 50s, suffered non-life threatening injuries, Marquis said. She was travelling alone.
Collision reconstruction experts were on the scene Saturday. The cause of the incident remains unclear.
The highway between Route 235 and de la Grande-Ligne Road reopened at about 1 a.m. Sunday after being closed in both directions for a few hours after the incident.
