TOLEDO, Ohio (WTVG) – The Ottawa Hills football coach that had faced charges for domestic assault returned to work last week, according to the school’s superintendent.
Brandon Carter, 43, of Toledo, had an Assault charge and a Domestic Violence charge. Both charges were first-degree misdemeanors. He pleaded not guilty. But on April 11, those charges were dismissed at the recommendation of the prosecutor for lack of jurisdiction, according to court records.
On April 22, Ottawa Hill Superintendent Adam Fineske said, “We were informed last week from our attorney that the charges remained dismissed and Sylvania court would not be moving forward with anything further at this time so Brandon returned to work as of last Thursday.”
Police affidavits alleged he harmed a woman by “repeatedly pulling on her arm and ‘dragging’ her by her arm while she was holding one of her children” on March 6. The victim reported being sore after the incident. Police records say the incident happened in Sylvania Township.
Body camera footage showed the victim later went to report the incident to Toledo Police and told an officer she didn’t know if she necessarily wanted to file assault charges against him, but “more or less need to like make documentation that it happened.”
A representative with the Toledo prosecutor’s office said they believe Sylvania Township would reach out to the victim to determine whether she wants to move forward with charges in that jurisdiction.
