Yangtze Restaurant, a popular fixture in the heart of Ottawa’s Chinatown for over 40 years, is up for sale.
“As it is time for our family to close this chapter, it presents a wonderful opportunity for someone to purchase this cornerstone business and building,” read a statement, in part, by the restaurant to CTV News.
“We’re sure it must come as a shock for our customers. We are a multi-generational family that has loved serving the Ottawa community and getting to know our customers – many who have become lifelong friends.”
A listing on realtor.ca says the property located at 700 Somerset Street West is being listed for $3,280,000.
The restaurant is one of the largest in Ottawa, with two floors, each approximately 4,800 square feet, with a total usable area of around 9,600 square feet. The lower-level banquet hall can accommodate about 70 people dining simultaneously, the listing says.
Yangtze has been serving up dim sum, Cantonese and Szechuan cuisine since it opened at the same location in 1982.
The restaurant says it will stay open until a sale is finalized.
“We appreciate the generations of loyal customers from here and all corners of the globe who have dined with us – without them, we wouldn’t be where we are today,” the restaurant added.
