Minutes after he had run the Tartan Ottawa International Marathon on Sunday morning, Andrew Dupuis went down on one knee, just a few feet past the finish line.
Was the 31-year-old exhausted after completing his first marathon, which he ran in 2:49? Hardly.

Instead, a little more than half an hour after his race was done, Dupuis was proposing to his girlfriend and fellow marathon novice, Austyn Roseborough, seconds after she crossed the finish line.

Roseborough, 30, covered her face with her hands and quickly said yes.
“That’s awesome, I’m so happy,” Dupuis said after his proposal was accepted.
The couple have been together for four years, and live in London, Ont., where Dupuis works as a consultant for Deloitte, and Roseborough is an MD/PhD student at Western University.
While the race in Ottawa was their first marathon, running and triathlons are fundamental to their relationship, Dupuis said. Several years ago, Roseborough competed in the Long Distance Triathlon World Championships in Denmark.
Before popping the question, Dupuis said that he had bought the rings months ago but was waiting for the perfect time to propose. “I’m very confident,” he said, before adding: “I don’t think she’s expecting it at all.”
Dupuis did not run the marathon’s 42.2 kilometres with the rings on his person. Instead, a ring-bearing accomplice was waiting to hand Dupuis the rings once his race was finished.
After Roseborough said yes, she was asked how she felt. “Pretty good. Tired, too,” she said.
Asked which was better, the proposal or the marathon, she added: “The proposal. The marathon hurt a lot.”
