Blast From The Past: Redblacks to adopt new look in ’24

The Ottawa Redblacks are adopting a familiar “new look” to commemorate their 10th anniversary this season.

When they step onto the turf at TD Place for their season opener against the Winnipeg Blue Bombers on June 13, they’ll resemble the old Ottawa Rough Riders more than ever before.

Intentionally.

The Redblacks new jersey and helmet logo was inspired by the Rough Riders, who played in 13 Grey Cup games and won seven of them from 1931 until folding operations in 1996.

The new black jersey is a tribute to the tradition of football in Ottawa, while bringing sleek modern elements to the Redblacks’ home uniform set.

The shoulders now feature a bold, forward-facing white stripe with a red outline and Ottawa’s revamped ‘R’ logo without the original saw blade background adorns the sides of the shoulders.

It also features on the Redblacks new helmets, also inspired by the Rough Riders specialty helmets with a white stripe and red outline down the middle, similar to the ones that debuted for one night only in 2022 and also made appearances during the 2023 season.

The new version of the retro-inspired helmet will be paired with the new home jersey, completing the iconic head-to-toe look.

The front of the jersey also features a special 10th anniversary logo, on the right side just above the “Redblacks” team name bar, as well as that of TD Bank — which has had a corporate partnership with the Redblacks since the team’s inception in 2014.

The new pants are all black and will feature the ‘R’ logo on the front right hip, replacing the RNation wordmark.

The new jerseys go on sale Tuesday, with the 10th anniversary patch sold separately.

Also on sale as of Tuesday are tickets for the 111th Grey Cup Game on Nov. 17th in Vancouver.

The league has announced that the Jonas Brothers will be performing at halftime.
