The Hamilton Tiger-Cats head to the nation’s capital on Sunday to face the Ottawa Redblacks.

Although the Ticats are still looking for their first win of the year, my Tiger-Cats vs. Redblacks predictions expect theme to seize it in this Week 4 clash.

Here are my best free CFL picks for June 30.

My analysis

I loved the Hamilton Tiger-Cats at +3.5 earlier in the week, and while that spread is long gone, I still think there’s value in backing them on the moneyline. The Ticats might be 0-3, both straight up and against the spread, but their passing game has been explosive with Bo Levi Mitchell at the helm.

Mitchell is a former two-time MOP winner who seems to have gotten back his arm strength and mobility, averaging 325 passing yards per game entering Week 4. While he was picked off three times last week, he’s in a good spot to bounce back against a mediocre Ottawa Redblacks secondary on Sunday.

The Redblacks have allowed a league-high 10.0 yards per pass attempt through two games, and they also struggled against the pass in 2023. This is a franchise that has finished at the bottom of the East Division in each of the last four years, and they didn’t do enough in the offseason to justify making them favorites. This is especially the case at home, where Ottawa is just 6-29 SU and 10-25 ATS since 2019.

The Redblacks began their season with an upset victory against the Blue Bombers in Week 2, but crashed back to earth last week in a 47-21 beatdown at the hands of the defending champion Alouettes.

Despite the Ticats allowing a league-worst 33.7 points per game, that’s due in large part to a whopping seven turnovers that have led to great field position for opponents. The Ticats are second in the league in yards per play (7.21) and third in yards allowed per play (6.44), which is a strong indication of how good they can be.

If Hamilton does a better job of taking care of the ball, it’ll snap its winless streak on Sunday.

Tiger-Cats vs Redblacks same-game parlay (SGP)

Tiger-Cats moneyline

Shemar Bridges Over 73.5 receiving yards

Justin Hardy Over 76.5 receiving yards

Shemar Bridges has emerged as Hamilton’s No. 1 wideout this year, leading the team in targets (28), receptions (22), and yards (270). He hauled in nine catches for 113 yards last week, and with the Ticats missing starting running back James Butler, they’ll likely lean even more on Mitchell and Bridges.

Meanwhile, Justin Hardy played for five years with the Atlanta Falcons and emerged as Ottawa’s best receiver by the end of last year. He has piled up at least 98 receiving yards in each of his last four games and is fresh off a 143-yard performance last week.

  • James Butler has been ruled out for the game, which will give running back Greg Bell his first career start against a stingy Redblacks run defense.
