OTTAWA — The City of Ottawa has announced it will begin the process of rebuilding and reinstating the Byron Linear Park and reconfiguring Richmond Road as part of the next phase of Stage 2 LRT West extension works.
Construction was slated to begin July 20 with completion expected by 2027, stated a release. A two-kilometre stretch of Richmond Road and Byron Avenue between McEwen Avenue and Cleary Avenue will be affected.
The project will modernize the area, providing new pedestrian and cycling pathways, green spaces, benches and other amenities. Also included is the replacement of underground utilities such as water and sewermains, final coverage of the LRT tunnel, installation of street lighting, traffic signals and signage, tree planting and landscaping, as well as the reconfiguration of Richmond Road to improve its alignment.
The city also reports structural work on the tunnel under Byron Linear Park is wrapping up. The contractor is backfilling the tunnel and is now working inside the tunnel to construct and install the required track and rail systems. The new light rail transit stations at Sherbourne and New Orchard are well underway and work on the stations is progressing above ground level.
