Sheffield United centre-back Auston Trusty is poised to join Celtic, the English Championship club’s manager Chris Wilder has said.
The 26-year-old, who has two caps for the United States, made 34 appearances last season for a side relegated from the Premier League after joining from Arsenal and started two of their three games this term.
Asked about Trusty, Wilder said he “believes” the defender was having a medical with Celtic after a deal was agreed on Thursday, and would likely be announced later on Friday.
Trusty joined Arsenal from Colorado Rapids in 2022 but failed to break into the first team, spending time on loan back at the Major League Soccer (MLS) club and then Birmingham City.
Celtic have also agreed a deal to sign 20-year-old midfielder Arne Engels from Bundesliga club Augsburg.
Reports suggest that could break the club record fee Celtic paid Paris St-Germain for striker Odsonne Edouard in 2018.
Engels has made 53 appearances for the Bundesliga club, having started his career with Club Bruges.
The Belgian is set to become the Scottish Premiership champions’ second signing this week after Barcelona left-back Alex Valle joined on loan.
Manager Brendan Rodgers has been clear signings would arrive after the sale of Matt O’Riley to Brighton & Hove Albion.
The Celtic boss has previously stated he wanted two midfielders to replace the Denmark international.
