Shrewsbury Town have taken their tally of summer transfer window signings to 15 by bringing back Alex Gilliead from Bradford City – and also signing Funso Ojo from Port Vale.
Belgian Ojo, 33, made 73 appearances in his two years with Vale.
The 28-year-old former Newcastle United trainee made his first move to Shrewsbury in July 2018 as one of the first signings for then-Town boss John Askey, following Paul Hurst’s end-of-season exit to Ipswich.
He spent one season at Oteley Road before moving on at the end of that season to sign for Scunthorpe United, where Hurst had gone following his sacking by Ipswich.
Although Hurst also left Scunthorpe halfway through the 2019-20 season, Gilliead stayed with the Iron until June 2021, when he left to join Bradford.
He now returns to the Meadow following his release by the League Two club, where he still had a season to run on a two-year deal, signed in June 2023.
One of Hurst’s summer signings, fellow midfielder Harrison Biggins has already departed, having made a deadline-day loan move to Carlisle.
