2024 Canada’s Strongest Man Results — Gabriel Rheaume Wins – Fitness Volt

The 2024 Canada’s Strongest Man competition took place on August 25 in Saint-Pamphile, Canada. It gathered 13 elite Strongmen originating from the nation and put them through six events in just one day. After all was concluded, Gabriel Rheaume emerged with the highest number of points and was crowned the champion.

Gabriel Rheaume won two out of six events at the 2024 Canada’s Strongest Man, but his overall consistency played a key role in his path to victory. Specifically, he finished in the top three across all events except for the first one. In the end, Gabriel built up a 9.5-point lead ahead of the next best man.

Event One — Max Deadlift

For the first event of the 2024 Canada’s Strongest Man the athletes had to establish a one-rep-max deadlift. They had to build up to it through multiple rounds, aiming to become the last man standing.

Frederick Rheaume was the strongest deadlifter in the lineup, managing to lock out 420 kilograms (926 pounds). James Jeffers was putting up a challenge to Frederick, but his limit turned out to be 408 kilograms (900 pounds). In turn, despite not managing to win the event, James did place second. Yanick Boucher and Ben Court tied for third place with a deadlift of 395 kilograms (871 pounds).

Event Two — Truck Pull

The second event of the 2024 Canada’s Strongest Man was the Truck Pull. Specifically, the men had to pull a 20,000-kilogram (44,092-pound) over a distance of 20 meters. The goal was to finish in the shortest time possible. However, in the instance where the athletes didn’t cross the finish line, they were ranked based on the total distance they managed to achieve.

Only two men managed to completely finish the event. The faster of the two was Joey Lavallee, who set a time of 33.04 seconds. The second-place finisher was Wesley Derwinsky, finishing four seconds behind Joey. This was particularly impressive considering that Wesley competed at the 2024 Strongest Man On Earth just a week prior.

Event Three — Super Yoke

Moving onto the third event, the athletes were tasked with lifting and carrying a huge Super Yoke on their shoulders. The weight of the implement came out to 454 kilograms (1,000 pounds), while the set distance was once again 20 meters. The goal was also to finish the event in the shortest time possible.

Gabriel Rheaume secured his first event win by finishing the Super Yoke carry in just 15.08 seconds. He was significantly faster than any other Strongman, proving why he is one of Canada’s greatest.

Ben Court and Yanick Boucher had a very tight race for second-place, finishing within just 0.07 seconds of each other. Ben won the duel, forcing Yanick to settle for third-place.

Event Four — Overhead Medley

For the Overhead Medley, the athletes had to lift four implements in the following order: 91-kg (200-lb) Dumbbell, 159-kg (350-lb) Axle, 166-kg (365-lb), 113-kg (249-lb) Dumbbell. The goal was to lift as many implements in the shortest time possible, but also within the 90-second time limit.

It did not take long for Gabriel Rheaume to claim his second event win, having topped the leaderboards on the Overhead Medley as well. No one managed to lift all four implements, but Gabriel was the fastest man to lift three of them, doing so in a time of 28.98 seconds.

Colten Sloan took second place, locking out the third implement in 41.97 seconds. He was followed by the third place finisher, Mathieu Poirer, who wrapped up his performance in the event in 50.67 seconds.

Event Five — Sandbag Steeplechase

The penultimate event of the 2024 Canada’s Strongest Man was the Sandbag Steeplechase. In this event, the athletes had to carry huge bags filled with sand across the course. The weight of the sandbags is unclear, but the goal was to finish the event in the least amount of time possible.

Wesley Derwinsky sailed to victory with a time of 42.66 seconds, boasting an incredibly fast time despite the fact that the majority of athletes was not even able to finish the event. Gabriel Rheaume finished four seconds after Wesley, grabbing a hold of second place.

Event Six — Atlas Stones

The final event of the 2024 Canada’s Strongest Man was the Atlas Stones. So, one of the most iconic Strongman events wrapped up the competition, tasking the athletes with lifting and loading five boulders ranging in weight from 136-kg (300-lb) to 191-kg (421-lb).

James Jeffers impressed everyone by being the only finisher in the Atlas Stones. The final implement proved to be too difficult for everyone else, but James made it look easy. In turn, he won the event, taking maximum points and jumping up to second-place overall.

Tyler Sigurdson was the fastest out of the few who lifted four implements, loading the fourth one in 27.23 seconds. Gabriel Rheaume was not far behind, finishing four stones in 32.34 seconds, which was enough for a third-place finish.

This was Gabriel Rheaume’s 11th professional appearance across both international and national competitions. It was also his second major victory. Namely, he won Canada’s Strongest Man in 2021 but lost the title a year later. He kept trying and has now finally taken the gold medal once again.
