A 71-year-old man from western Prince Edward Island faces an impaired-driving charge after police say the vehicle he was driving hit a cyclist Thursday night.
West Prince RCMP responded to a 911 call just after 7 p.m. about a single-vehicle collision with a bicycle on Church Street in Alberton, the force said in a news release.
The cyclist was treated for minor injuries at the scene.
RCMP said they spoke with the vehicle’s driver, who admitted to having had some alcohol earlier in the day. The man failed a roadside breath screening and was taken to the West Prince RCMP detachment for a blood-alcohol test.
Police said the driver failed that test with a reading of 0.12, which is above the legal limit of 0.08.
The man, from the nearby community of Brooklyn, was charged with driving while impaired. His vehicle was impounded and he received a 90-day driving suspension.
