Torquay United manager Paul Wotton says he does not know why a crucial goal in his side’s 2-0 loss at Welling was disallowed.
The Gulls thought they had taken the lead after 39 minutes when Cody Cooke scored from Dean Moxey‘s throw, but the goal was ruled out.
Charlie Pegrum went on to give the hosts an 82nd-minute lead before Gene Kennedy wrapped up the victory deep in stoppage time to see Torquay slip to fifth in the National League South table.
“I’ve seen it back and it’s a goal, it’s a stonewall goal,” Wotton told BBC Radio Devon.
“The problem is you say to officials and ask them for an explanation and they haven’t given explanation – it’s a goal and we should go in 1-0 up.”
Lirak Hasani hit the post, while Cody Cooke hit the bar for the Gulls, who failed to score for just the second time this season.
“We were on the front foot totally dominating and I felt very, very comfortable,” added Wotton.
“Their first goal was disappointing defending from us, it’s the only time all game we didn’t double up in a wide area, the lad comes inside, cross, goal and the second goal was irrelevant – it was the 96th minute.
“So, overall, I’m very disappointed. It’s still a good start for us after eight games.
“I don’t really care where we are in the league at the moment. I think we need a little break. I’m glad we haven’t got a midweek game.
“On another day we win that game. The frustrating thing is it’s a goal. I don’t understand, and it costs you.”
