Liverpool manager Arne Slot is proving as much of an impressive performer as his team.

A cool and calm Slot spoke to the media prior to the Reds hosting Nottingham Forest on Saturday on the back of three wins from their opening three games.

The Dutchman adeptly handled a range of questions about the contract situations of Trent Alexander-Arnold, Virgil van Dijk and Mohamed Salah, who have each entered the final 12 months of their deals, injuries, the unhappiness expressed by keeper Caoimhin Kelleher and a hectic upcoming schedule.

The Reds play seven games in three weeks across the top-flight, Champions League and Carabao Cup before the next international break in October and it was interesting to listen to Slot talk about coping with that fixture list.

He spoke about how this was not an issue at former clubs where he could stick with the same team and how he was able to look at the team rather than the individual when it came to his preparation for the run of games.

But, anyone wanting to get more first-team football will have to earn it.

“It depends on what they show,” said Slot. “I assume that they all want to play every game so if they want to they have to show up every time.

“Also in quality but also in work rate.”
