Truro City manager John Askey hailed top scorer Tyler Harvey after he earned the Tinners a 2-1 win at Aveley in National League South.

Jaze Kabia had given Truro a 36th-minute lead, but Charlee Hughes equalised in first-half stoppage time, scoring a penalty given for handball.

But Harvey – who signed a new contract earlier this season – headed into the top corner with 11 minutes left to secure a first win in three games and send Truro sixth in National League South.

“We should have gone in two or three up, and then for some reason he gave them a penalty, which shouldn’t have been, and then you’re just worried that one or two decisions are going to go against us,” Askey told BBC Radio Cornwall.

“But the lads have kept going and Tyler has come up with the goods again, a great header, so I’m really pleased, it gets us back to winning ways.”

The goal was Harvey’s seventh in the league this season and came less than a month after agreeing a new ‘multi-year’ deal.

“He does it time and time again, and if we keep playing the balls in there he’ll score,” added Askey.

“He missed a sitter first half, but like all good strikers he keeps getting in there, keeps creating chances.

“But I thought we played some good stuff and we created a lot of chances.”
