A 35-year-old man from Makwa Sahgaiehcan First Nation who was badly injured in an assault earlier this week has died in hospital, Saskatchewan RCMP say, and they’re now asking the public for help in their investigation.
Loon Lake RCMP received a report of a serious assault at around 9 a.m. last Monday, police said in a news release earlier this week.
Officers who responded found a seriously injured man at a home on the First Nation, which is about 270 kilometres northwest of Saskatoon. He was taken to hospital.
In an update Saturday, police said the victim had died in hospital. They identified him as Shoshone Morningchild of Makwa Sahgaiehcan First Nation.
The Saskatchewan RCMP major crimes and general investigation sections have taken over what is now being treated as a suspicious death investigation, Saturday’s update said. The Saskatchewan Coroners Service is also involved and an autopsy has been ordered.
RCMP are now seeking assistance from the public, and ask anyone with information that may help in their investigation call RCMP at 310-RCMP or their local police service, or by contacting Crime Stoppers anonymously  at 1-800-222-8477 (TIPS) or online at saskcrimestoppers.com.
