Texans WR Nico Collins placed on IR as NFL’s receiving yardage leader to miss at least four games

The Houston Texans have placed wide receiver Nico Collins on injured reserve, ruling him out for at least the next four games.

Collins injured his hamstring in the first half of Houston’s 23-20 Week 5 win over the Buffalo Bills. After being evaluated in the medical tent, he left for the locker room and was ruled out at halftime.

Prior to exiting the game, Collins had recorded two receptions for 78 yards, including a 67-yard touchdown.

By Monday, Collins’ status went from day-to-day to week-to-week.

“Nico, he’s in good spirits,” said Texans coach DeMeco Ryans on Monday. “Of course, with the hamstring, it takes a couple weeks for a hamstring, so we’ll evaluate that on a week-to-week basis to see where we can get him.”

Through five weeks, the 25-year-old Collins leads the NFL in receiving yards with 567. He’s tied for third in receptions with 32, has three touchdowns this season and he is tied with four other receivers for the NFL lead with eight receptions of at least 20 yards or more.

Collins will miss the Texans’ upcoming games against New England Patriots, Green Bay Packers, Indianapolis Colts, and New York Jets. He is eligible to return for their Week 10 matchup against the Detroit Lions on Nov. 10.
