Rotherham defender Reece James says the Millers cannot afford to let winning positions slip through their fingers if they are to challenge for promotion.
Steve Evans’s side threw away a 3-1 half-time lead at Peterborough United on Saturday, conceding twice in the second period to draw 3-3 and blow two points which would have lifted them within sight of the play-off places.
James insists the club have to be more ruthless if they are to make good on their ambitions to climb out of League One this season.
Rotherham, among the favourites for promotion heading into the campaign, are unbeaten in four matches but are down in 15th, although the gap on the top six is only two points.
“From the position we were coming out after half-time that is frustrating and tough to take for us as a team,” he said. “We normally pride ourselves on being defensively solid.
“We have started to show that we have threats all over and have been on a good run of form lately but we have to make sure we see the games through if we want to be competing at the top of the table.”
Striker Jonson Clarke-Harris, who scored Rotherham’s third against his former club on the stroke of half-time, pulled his hamstring in the aftermath of his goal and was subbed at the break.
Evans said in his post-match assessment he hoped the injury “was not too bad” but his participation at the weekend against Wrexham remains in doubt.
