Three more people have been charged with manslaughter in the death of a man following an assault in downtown Fredericton last month, say police.

Two youths, aged 16 and 17, and an 18-year-old man, appeared before a judge Thursday, when they were each charged in the death of André Bourgeois, 41, of Grande-Digue, and released on conditions.

Bourgeois died as a result of injuries he sustained in a serious assault on Sept. 22, according to information presented in court. His obituary said he died on Sept. 27.

Fredericton police previously said they were investigating a serious assault that occurred in the early morning hours of Sept. 22 in the Tannery, a large courtyard area outside several bars, between King and Queen streets. “Two men were assaulted, one seriously,” police said in a statement a week after the incident.

Earlier this month, a 17-year-old male was also charged with manslaughter in Bourgeois’s death.

The identity of the youths is protected by the Youth Criminal Justice Act.

Police spokesperson Sonya Gilks did not immediately respond to questions about whether the two youths charged Thursday are male or female.

The name of the of the 18-year-old man has not been released. Gilks could not immediately be reached to explain why.

The investigation continues, police said.
