Monday Night Football: Ravens dominate Buccaneers, Cardinals stun Chargers with game-winning field goal

Must read

Lamar Jackson and the Baltimore Ravens had no issues on Monday night.

The Ravens cruised to a dominant 41-31 win over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in the first game of a “Monday Night Football” doubleheader at Raymond James Stadium in Florida. It marked their fifth straight win, and pushed them to 5-2 on the season.

After falling into a 10-point hole right away, the Ravens put up 34 unanswered points to completely stun Baker Mayfield and the Buccaneers. Jackson threw for five touchdowns, two of which went to tight end Mark Andrews, and Derrick Henry racked up 169 rushing yards — thanks in part to a wild 81-yard run in the second half.

The Buccaneers put up 21 points in the fourth quarter, but their push came way too late to give them a realistic shot at the win. They lost both star wide receivers Mike Evans and Chris Godwin, too. Godwin went down in the final minutes with a gruesome leg injury, and had to be carted off the field.

In the other game of the night, Kyler Murray and the Arizona Cardinals mounted a perfect game-winning drive to beat the Los Angeles Chargers 17-15 at State Farm Stadium.

The Cardinals, after giving up a fifth field goal to Chargers kicker Cameron Dicker and falling down a point just inside of the two minute warning, marched down the field quickly to set up a 32-yard game-winning field goal from Chad Ryland.

Justin Herbert threw for 349 yards in the loss for the Chargers, but he didn’t throw a touchdown. He led them on a long eight-minute drive in the fourth quarter to set up Dicker’s fifth field goal, but they left too much time on the clock for James Conner and the Cardinals. Conner ran for 101 yards, had another 51 receiving yards, and set up the final field goal with a huge 33-yard reception on the winning drive.

The win pushed Arizona to 3-4 on the season while the Chargers fall to 3-3.

  • Chargers-Cardinals: Chargers looking at a fifth field goal?

Justin Herbert had the Chargers moving, and Jim Harbaugh is losing it on the sidelines after a pass interference call was waived off, but the Cardinals just picked up a critical stop on third down.

  • Ravens-Bucs: Chris Godwin is hurt, carted off

The Tampa receiver goes down as his team is trying to drive down the field with under a minute left trailing by 10. His lower left leg was hit hard, and he was just carted off the field. The injury was gruesome, and ESPN opted not to show the replay.

Mike Evans already left this game injured. Now another star receiver is banged up.

  • Chargers-Cards: LA adds a FG

Cameron Dicker continues to be the MVP for the Chargers tonight as he nails a 47-yard kick to cut Arizona’s lead to 14-12.

Dicker is 4-for-4 on field goals on the night.

  • Ravens-Bucs: Touchdown Tampa

Baker Mayfield finds a wide open Rachaad White, who waltzes into the end zone untouched.

Ravens lead is cut to 41-31 with 1:58 to play. Another onside kick likely coming.

  • Chargers-Cards: Kyler Murray sprints for a go-ahead TD!

Baker Mayfield and Co. march down the field quickly for a 9-play, 70-yard scoring drive capped by Bucky Irving’s 1-yard TD.

Then the Bucs manage to recover their onside kick. And they’re still fighting in this one!

It’s 41-24 Ravens with under 4 minutes to play.

  • Chargers-Cards: Bolts take the lead with a FG

Cameron Dicker caps a long Chargers drive with a 28-yard field goal after the offense stalls out at the 10-yard line. Dicker has scored all nine points for LA tonight.

LA takes a 9-7 lead late in the 3rd quarter.

  • Touchdown Ravens!

This Baltimore offense can’t be stopped. This time it’s a pass to Derrick Henry for a 13-yard touchdown.

That makes FIVE TD passes for Lamar Jackson.

The rout continues in Tampa. It’s a 41-18 Baltimore lead.

  • Ravens-Bucs: Derrick Henry breaks a big run

The Ravens RB is off to the races again, this time with QB Lamar Jackson laying a block.

  • Chargers-Cards: Arizona stopped on 4th down

The Cardinals bring in backup QB Clayton Tune to try a QB sneak on both 3rd and 1 and 4th and 1. He gets stuffed both times, and the Chargers take over on downs near midfield.

  • Ravens-Bucs: Touchdown, Tampa

Finally, the Buccaneers have found the end zone again. Baker Mayfield hit Rachaad White for an 11-yard touchdown. They converted the 2-point conversion, too, so Baltimore’s lead is now 34-18.

  • Ravens-Bucs: Bucs take over after fumble

Well, there’s the first slip of the night for Baltimore. Lamar Jackson threw it back to Zay Flowers, who dropped it for the fumble and the Buccaneers recovered. They initially ran it back for a touchdown, but that play was called back.

So Baker Mayfield will take over at the Baltimore 30. If a comeback is going to happen, they’ll need a touchdown here quick.

  • Chargers-Cardinals: Chargers forced to punt out of the break

The Chargers’ first drive out of halftime started out promising, but a holding penalty and a sack pushed them way back and eventually forced them to punt. So the Cardinals will take over inside their own 10.

The Ravens have the ball and are driving yet again with a 24-point lead in Tampa. They’re just 15 minutes away from a fifth straight win.
