Windsor police are warning community members of a social media door-knock trend after multiple calls were made by residents.
The TikTok challenge encourages people to film themselves knocking or kicking the front doors or garages of homes and then running away. Police say the acts typically happen at night or early morning, and “can cause physical and emotional distress for residents.”
Police say officers were called following two separate incidents in the past week, with one report on Sunday shortly after 7 p.m., of an attempted break-and-enter at a house on 3000 block of Stillmeadow Road. According to police, unknown suspects kicked in the front door before running away.
About an hour later, a group of teenagers allegedly went to a home in the area of 7700 block of Hawthorne Drive, kicked the front door in, and threw a rock through a window before leaving the area.
All suspects involved in both incidents are still outstanding, police say.
Police discourage the community from taking part in the trend, which they say could lead to criminal charges.
