Calgary police have confirmed the identity of the victim of a fatal shooting last week in the city’s northeast after an autopsy completed on Tuesday.

John Noon Ochelo, 28, was found deceased in a residence in the 200 block of Homestead Drive N.E. on Oct. 18, according to a release.

Police have now officially ruled his death a homicide.

On Friday, officers had responded to reports that a man had been shot at approximately 7:20 p.m. Officials said suspects fled the scene before the officers arrived.

No suspects have since been identified, and the investigation remains ongoing.

Prior to his death, Ochelo had faced charges of two counts of kidnapping with a restricted firearm for ransom and breach of recognizance. He had also been charged with firearms and drug-related offences stemming back to 2017, according to previous releases from the Calgary police. Investigators had previously linked Ochelo to organized crime.
