It was a tough first El Clásico for former Paris Saint-Germin star Kylian Mbappé as Real Madrid suffered a 4-0 defeat to FC Barcelona on Saturday night at the Santiago Bernabéu Stadium.
Unfortunately for Mbappé, he made history for all the wrong reasons. The first half ended without any goals, but in the 31st minute, he thought he had scored to put the home team ahead. However, after a VAR review, the goal was disallowed for offside.
The Frenchman is off to a challenging start in the Spanish capital and while he has eight total goals, only three are from open play.
Moreover, StatMuse pointed out on X that Barcelona scored more goals against Real Madrid this season (four) than Mbappé has scored for Los Blancos from open play (three).
If things couldn’t get any worse for Mbappé and Real Madrid, they had to watch Barcelona celebrate four goals in the second half. Veteran striker Robert Lewandowski netted two of those, scoring in the 54th and 56th minutes.
Lamine Yamal added another in the 77th minute, followed by Raphinha, who sealed the deal with a goal in the 84th minute. It’s been a tough start for Mbappé at Real Madrid, and if he can’t break out of this slump soon, his time there may not end well.
