Truro City manager John Askey says the club’s recent form has been “remarkable”.

The Tinners are second in National League South and on a seven-game unbeaten run after Tuesday’s 1-1 draw with Chippenham Town.

More than 2,800 people were at the new Truro City Stadium for the match – a record attendance since it was opened in August.

“The performances that the players are putting in, you couldn’t ask any more of them,” Askey told BBC Radio Cornwall.

“We have got a very, very limited squad, limited resources, and it’s remarkable what’s happening at the football club.

“You can see off the pitch how they city’s getting behind us, and that showed with 2,800 on a Tuesday night when there’s Champions League football on.”

Bad weather at their temporary grounds forced Truro to play 13 games in the final 28 days of last season as they ended the campaign in 16th place.

They lost manager Paul Wotton to rivals Torquay United over the summer as they finally returned to Cornwall after the best part of four years away, having sold off their former ground.

They replaced Wotton with Askey, who has previously led York City to promotion from the northern version of the sixth-tier and also taken charge of Port Vale, Shrewsbury Town and Macclesfield Town in the English Football League.

He appears to have galvanised a side to the highest position they have ever bene in the English football pyramid.

“I think everyone can see that there’s things are happening at the football club,” Askey added.

“We want to try and push this club as far as we can, the ultimate goal is obviously to try and get into league football.

“We’ll need a lot of resources to do that, but that’s the aim.

“Hopefully we can attract investment, and if we do that then the club’s only going to go one way, and that is forward.

“So we keep trying to improve the structure, but it is so important that everybody gets behind us, the whole of Cornwall really, because it would be fantastic if we could if we could do something this season.”
