Canada’s labour market added a net 14,500 jobs in October, while the unemployment rate held steady at 6.5 per cent, according to Statistics Canada data released on Friday. Economists expected a job gain of 30,000, according to consensus estimates published by BMO Capital Markets. BMO economists had expected a gain of 25,000 jobs in October, with the unemployment rate ticking up to 6.6 per cent.

This comes after the September jobs report beat expectations. The economy added a net 46,700 jobs in September, while the unemployment rate dropped to 6.5 per cent.
