An intoxicated golfer struck another golfer with his driver during an argument on a golf course in a superb of Vancouver, according to an alarming video. The force of the impact broke the clubhead.
The incident took place in Burnaby, which is approximately eight miles west of the popular, northwestern Canadian city. The suspect apparent took a swing at several golfers, although those allegations could not be seen on video.
The suspect was apparently annoyed when a errant shot from another group was hit near him. The individuals could be seen arguing when one guy suddenly swings his driver and hits the victim in the head. In the video, you don’t actually see the club make contact with the victim, but a few seconds later you can see the injured linksman on the ground attempting to regroup.
Another golfer could be heard yelling, “What is wrong with you,’’ to the suspect, who was arrested a short time later by the Royal Canadian Mounted Police of Burnaby.
The victim eventually got back to his feet.
“The incident on video is alarming, and violence has no place at any City of Burnaby facilities,’’ the city of Burnaby released in a statement.
The suspect was released with a future court date. A single charge of assault with a weapon is being considered.
