RapidSOS Partners with TELUS to Modernize 911 Communications in Canada

RapidSOS, the intelligent safety platform that securely links life-saving data from over 540 million connected devices, sensors, and apps to over 21,000 911 and field responder agencies during an emergency, today announced a partnership with TELUS, a leading provider of telecom services in Canada. The partnership is focused on modernizing 911 communications. The two organizations will be working together to further support the Canadian emergency service infrastructure by using data from devices to provide information on the situation, such as the location and severity of the emergency.

Today, emergency telecommunicators and field responders do extraordinary work managing over one billion emergencies globally each year despite having little more than a voice connection to the caller in an emergency. The result is that despite abundant data from connected vehicles, digital health devices, smartphones, and connected buildings, telecommunicators often struggle even to know the caller’s name or location.

RapidSOS and TELUS provide more intelligent and robust data to emergency services through this collaboration, improving response times and human outcomes. This will allow the most suited field responders to get to an emergency as quickly as possible, improving care and saving more lives.

The partnership will also support the Canadian Emergency Infrastructure’s transition to NG911 and deliver critical, life-saving data to PSAPs (Public Safety Answering Points) for a more effective, efficient emergency response.

After years of listening and working with 911 Centers and the Public Safety community worldwide, RapidSOS developed a platform that captures the complexity of integrating into multiple systems. This platform provides emergency services with the information they need to empower field responders.

“From the inception of our company, we’ve worked with Public Safety to build an intelligent safety platform that supports the digitization of current 911 infrastructure and continuously evolves to solve how these agencies receive data to address an emergency more effectively,” said Karin Marquez, Chief Public Safety Office of RapidSOS. “Providing real-time, actionable data to first responders in the field supports their life-saving work in keeping their communities safe.”

“Combining TELUS’ award-winning network with RapidSOS’ state-of-the-art platform is a testament to our ongoing commitment to leverage technology to enhance the safety and well-being of Canadians,” said Jerome Birot, VP Telco Cloud, Core Network & Services, TELUS. “This partnership will help modernize emergency response systems to equip first responders with the critical information they need to save lives.”
