Goodwin on ‘huge opportunity’, Ibrox tension & pressure plan

Must read

Dundee United manager Jim Goodwin has been speaking to the media before this weekend’s Premiership trip to Rangers.

Here are the key lines:

  • Goodwin says the opportunity to move level on points with Rangers is “a huge motivation for the players” and they go into the game with a “real positive vibe”.

  • He wants his side to “create some nervous tension” among the Ibrox crowd, adding: “We know the fans can very quickly get on the backs of the Rangers players.”

  • On United’s 13-year wait for a league win at Ibrox, Goodwin says “those records have to change at some point” and his side have “ticked off a few of those type”.

  • He notes Rangers have had a “difficult start” and the supporters “are not happy Celtic are so far in front”, urging his team to put Philippe Clement’s side “under as much pressure as we can”.

  • Goodwin says the international break came at a good time for United given the number of injuries they were carrying.

  • Louis Moult is back from injury and United hope to have Ross Graham available in the next couple of weeks. Craig Sibbald and Kristijan Trapanovski remain sidelined.
