Huddersfield Town manager Michael Duff says he hopes supporters can see improvements at the club after being “let down a lot” over previous seasons.
Speaking ahead Tuesday’s League One game against Wigan Athletic, Duff said he was determined to build foundations for success at the club over the coming years.
The Terriers are unbeaten in the league since 1 October, form which has seen them climb into the play-off places.
Huddersfield were relegated from the Premier League in 2019, before they dropped out of the Championship last season, for the first time since 2012.
Duff, who joined the club in May, said: “The supporters have been let down a lot over these last few years, and I hope they can see we’re trying to build the foundations for the future.
“We’ve got a long way to go and we need to earn their trust, but I think fans will have seen improvements because the results definitely have shown.”
During their 2-0 win at Leyton Orient, wing-back Mickel Miller was taken off with a knee injury, something Duff described as “significant”, ruling the 29-year-old out until around March as he’s due to undergo surgery this week.
Miller has started 13 of the Terriers’ 16 league games and been an influential figure down the left flank, providing three assists.
“Mickel’s injury is not just a few weeks, it’s three to four months, which is almost at the end of the season, so it’s significant,” Duff said.
When asked whether it would force them to make a move in the January transfer window, he added: “We’ve got our obvious targets which haven’t changed”.
“However, more conversations are happening and all the club’s are trying to get their ducks in a row.
“The general problem when you’re bringing people in is that they’re available for a reason.
“You have to ask: have you got better in the building? If it’s going to take two months to get them up to speed, is there any point?”
