Here are five reasons to watch the action this weekend.
Atalanta-Milan guarantees goals
There will be goals in Atalanta’s Lombardy derby with Milan on Friday night in Bergamo. Statistically speaking, it can be guaranteed.
This game will likely see the four Serie A players who have contributed to the most goals in 2024 in action and aiming to add to their respective tallies: Charles De Ketelaere (30, 14 goals and 15 assists), Ademola Lookman (30, 19G+11A), Rafael Leรฃo (28, 16G+12A) and Christian Pulisic (27, 16G+11A).
Atalanta have also scored at least twice in each of their last 11 home league games (the longest ongoing home streak in the competition), while the Rossoneri are coming in on a run of 18 goals in their last six (including scoring at least three in five of those fixtures and netting six on Tuesday night in the Coppa Italia).
Sit back and enjoy it the goals flying in.
Napoli meet Lazio after Coppa Italia defeat
This is the second meeting in the space of three days between these sides, having clashed in the capital in the Coppa Italia on Thursday.
Napoli boss Antonio Conte famously prioritises league form over cup competitions, and fielded a second-string side against Lazio, with the capital club running out 3-1 winners.
His starting XI will look vastly different on Sunday, setting this up to be a fascinating clash in the evening kick-off slot.
There could be some late drama too, as these are the two Serie A sides that have scored the most goals (four each) in second half injury time this season.
Lazio are unbeaten against the Partenopei in their last three league encounters, which leads to one question – can Conte galvanise his squad to reverse the trend in this fixture?
Thuram seeks quirky record
A curious yet impressive piece of goalscoring history potentially awaits Inter striker Marcus Thuram in his side’s meeting with Parma on Friday evening.
He is currently on nine goals for the Serie A season and is aiming to reach double figures for the campaign by only scoring 2+ goals in each match he has found the net.
Only twice before in league history have players reached 10 goals for the season by only netting in multi-goal games and it hasn’t been done for over 60 years.
Norberto Hรถfling with Lazio in 1949/50 was first to do so before Harald Nielsen managed it with Bologna in 1962/63. Will the Frenchman follow suit with (at least) a brace?
Motta’s awkward reunion
First, the fans chant ‘stay in Bologna,’ and then they initiate ‘if you don’t jump, you’re a Juventino’. As soon as Motta realized what was going on, he stopped. pic.twitter.com/GftcGcMXY8

Bologna’s trip to Juventus will see them come up against former coach Thiago Motta for the first time since he left for the Old Lady this summer.
And Bologna ultras have made it clear where they stand on the former Italy international, with a series of insulting chants about him towards the end of their Coppa Italia win over Monza on Tuesday, in view of their trip to Turin.
That relationship, even during his days as Felsinei coach, was always testy and he was involved in an angry back-and-forth in 2022 when ultras descended on the club’s training ground to make their displeasure known.
Things could get feisty on Saturday evening, with Bologna out to land a big blow to their former tactician, who is starting to come under scrutiny having guided them to just one win from their last five.
Now or never for Ranieri
Since returning to the Roma dugout for a third go-around, Claudio Ranieri is still waiting for a first win but will be hoping it finally arrives at home to Lecce on his fourth attempt.
And he should be confident of doing so, despite their recent struggles, with the visitors to the Stadio Olimpico just two points above the relegation zone and facing a fixture that hasn’t been kind to them.
Roma have won 24 and drawn 10 of the last 36 league meetings between the sides and among the sides the Giallorossi have faced at least 10 times in Serie A, Lecce are the side who they have the lowest loss percentage against (6%).
Just don’t expect any early drama here – these are the only teams who are yet to manage a goal in the first 15 minutes of play this season.
