Steven Caulker says his former side Tottenham are “actually struggling” this season and “defensively fell apart” in Sunday’s defeat to Chelsea.

Spurs gave away a 2-0 lead to lose 4-3 to their rivals to leave Ange Postecoglou’s side 11th in the Premier League, having only won twice in their past seven lague games.

“There seems to be a real lack of consistency around Spurs,” Caulker told Sportsworld on the BBC World Service. “They go away and beat Man City 4-0 and then they struggle during the week.

“[Against Chelsea] they looked to be off to a flier and it just defensively fell apart from them. Defensive errors have cost them dearly.

“The league table isn’t a pretty sight.

“Overall I feel Tottenham are actually struggling this year. The pressure is building because they spent some money. They’ve made a few additions to the squad [but] unfortunately, this high press only works if you’re not conceding.

“They’re certainly good at the top end. We saw that. In moments, they were good.

“But, at the other end they’re just making too many mistakes. Chelsea at the end came away worthy winners.”
