A 69-year-old man was killed in what police believe to be a targeted shooting in North York early Monday, Toronto police say.

Around 4 a.m., a parking officer came across a man with a gunshot wound and no vital signs lying in a driveway on Fairholme Avenue, in the area of Lawrence Avenue W. and Allen Road, Det.-Sgt. Aaron Akeson told reporters Monday afternoon.

Akeson identified the victim as Mariano De-Marco of Toronto. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police believe the shooting was targeted, Akeson said, though he did not say why.

“He’s a father, a grandfather, an uncle, and there’s a lot of people that are very upset by his death,” Akeson said.

Police don’t have any details about the suspects at this time.

Investigators are now canvassing the area for witnesses and asking anyone with information or video of the incident to come forward, Akeson said.
