Golfers generally carry one or two golf towels on their golf bags, but what if those towels could do much more than keep your clubs clean? What if a towel could improve your swing or help you putt better?
Intrigued?
Tour Habits is a new multi-purpose all-Canadian golf training aid brainstormed by Golf Canada coaches Derek Ingram, head coach of Golf Canada’s national men’s team, and Tristan Mullally, Golf Canada’s head of talent identification, in collaboration with the Sault Ste. Marie, Ont., accessories brand, Towel Tag.
What it’s all about:
A pair of printed microfibre towels — one for the long game and one for the short game — with four putting discs are used in conjunction with a series of one-to-two-minute YouTube videos to help golfers be more productive in practice sessions or during warm-up.
Both Tour Habits towels are effectively two-sided workstations.
Laid out on the range or the putting green, the towels provide visual cues and feedback. Used in conjunction with the Ingram-Mullally video drills, they can be a roadmap for better swing and putting performance.
Towel Tag’s Roll Over putting discs make this training aid a trifecta. They have been purposely designed to be 10 per cent smaller than a 4.25-inch standard golf hole and as a smaller target, they are ideal for practice putts of any length, slope or break indoors or outdoors.
Who it’s for:
Anyone. It starts at the top with touring professionals and pyramids down to include club pros, better-playing amateurs, weekend warriors, women, seniors, juniors and beginners.
What Tour Habits said:
Tristan Mullally, PGA of Canada professional:
“Each of the unique designs will help your visuals, help you in maintenance or base station and help you go through different positions in your swing. There so, so many ways for a golfer to use this to get better.”
Derek Ingram, PGA of Canada professional:
Some incredibly useful coaching information on a towel carried with you every day while you’re on the golf course.
More info:
The value-added proposition of this training aid is the Tour Habits YouTube channel. It features 17 easy-to-follow, under two-minute drills on how to use the towel and discs to get better.
Tour Habits towels are safe for standard machine washing and dryer use.
Towel Tag putting discs are dishwasher, clothes washer and dryer safe. When they’re not helping you improve your putting, they make pretty nice coffee table coasters.
My take
Multi-purpose training aids generally garner my undivided attention. This is one of the best examples I’ve seen. Utilizing the Ingram-Mullally videos, I did some testing with the long game towel in my garage and with the short game towel and Roll Over putting discs on my home office putting green and was more than impressed with the outcomes. There are many ways Tour Habits can be used to make practice and warm-up more productive and efficient. Out on the golf course, there’s no drop-off in performance. Both durable, easy-to-wash microfibre towels are held onto your golf bag by Towel Tag’s excellent towel holder tag.
Pricing and availability:
The Tour Habits training bundle (all three products) costs $109.95. However, consumers can also order each product separately. The long game towel costs $65.95, the putting towel $55.95, and the putting discs $29.95.
