Former Celtic boss Ange Postecoglou says facing Rangers with Tottenham is the Europa League game he has been looking forward to most this season.
Postecoglou – under pressure amid Spurs’ poor run of form – takes his side to Ibrox on Thursday.
The Australian, who won five out of six domestic trophies in two seasons with Celtic before his move to Spurs in June last year, said: “When the draw came out, it was the one of most interest to me because of my history up here. So I’m looking forward to it.
“It should be a good game and it’s an important game for both clubs. A positive result gets you a good way to getting through to the knockout stages.”
Postecoglou tasted victory and defeat in Govan with Celtic and is well aware the atmosphere at Ibrox goes up a notch on big European nights.
“Yeah, absolutely, and you’ve seen that this year as well,” he added.
“When I was up here, particularly in my first year, they made the Europa League final so I’ve got a pretty clear idea of how challenging it is to play them here in front of their crowd and the atmosphere. At the same time, it’s exciting.
“Their domestic season in the league hasn’t gone as well as they would’ve liked but you can tell there’s still the elements there of quality. They’re in the cup final on the weekend and they’ve done really well in Europe.”
