We asked Tottenham fans for their thoughts on Ange Postecoglou publicly criticising Timo Werner for his first-half performance against Rangers.
And we have been inundated with replies.
Here are some of the comments backing the boss:
Trevor: Werner is one of the highest paid players in the squad – he deserves to be called out for his abject displays. Still gets paid regardless. Not good business, Mr Levy.
Anthony: So Ange has finally discovered what many Spurs fans think, that Werner doesn’t warrant a place in the team. He should be expected to put a shift in. My boss would have every right to criticise me in public if I was paid a salary like his.
Mark: Spot on. If Werner – who earns a ridiculous salary – has any integrity, he would hold his hand up and agree, before making amends in his next game, if he ever gets one with Spurs.
Bob: Spot on Ange. I believe a few more of the squad need an “assessment”. If they are not prepared to fight for the team, club and fans, they are taking money under false pretences and need to move on.
Mark: Timo has never seemed to give 100 per cent – he just goes through the motions. I would not put him in the starting XI.
Terry: I am surprised it has taken Ange so long to come to this conclusion. Timo has had enough chances and continues to disapoint. Myself and fellow season ticket holders were amazed his loan period was extended for another season. Ange expects high-pressing entertaining football. But Timo is on a downward trend, the option to buy of £8.5m tells you all you need to know.
