Canada hiring students to work in France and the job comes with lots of perks

Must read

Have you always wanted to work abroad? The government of Canada is currently hiring college and university students to work in France next summer.

The Student Guide Program in France is the perfect opportunity for those looking to travel and gain valuable work experience. Veterans Affairs Canada (VAC) employs students year-round to work as guides at two locations in northern France: the Canadian National Vimy Memorial and the Beaumont-Hamel Newfoundland Memorial.

Not only will you live and work in France, but it’s also a great way to develop your public speaking and presentation skills. In this role, you’ll represent Canada as a youth ambassador and meet people from around the world. It’s also a great opportunity to learn about Canada’s military history.

As a student guide, you’ll wear a uniform, work outdoors (you may encounter wildlife like rabbits and sheep), and give tours of preserved underground tunnels. You’ll also answer questions about preserved battlefields, public sites, and local attractions.

VAC is seeking to fill 16 full-time positions with a salary of $18.42 to $21.13 per hour and a $30 daily living allowance. Students have the option to live in subsidized housing for $300 a month. If chosen, you’ll have to pay for travel expenses and health insurance. However, once you successfully complete the program, you could be eligible for a partial reimbursement of up to $1,000 for airfare costs.

To apply, you must be a Canadian citizen or permanent resident and meet the following requirements:

  • You must have a valid passport and work visa for France and a Canadian driver’s license
  • Provide a signed attestation that confirms a full-time student status in a recognized post-secondary institution
  • You must be fluent in English and French and have excellent public speaking skills
  • You must meet the Federal Student Work Experience Program (FSWP) criteria
  • You must have valid First Aid and Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) certificates

If you meet all the requirements, the winter break is the perfect time to brush up on your resume, but you might want to do that soon, as the deadline to apply is January 6, 2025.
