Swansea chasing up to three January signings

Luke Williams wants up to three January signings and says Swansea City are going global – again – in their search for new recruits.

Williams feels Swansea are “in a good place” heading into the mid-season transfer window having been part of a lengthy recruitment meeting earlier this week.

Swansea’s head coach believes a play-off push is possible this season, with the club hoping to improve top-six prospects by bolstering their squad.

“I think between one and three signings would be realistic for what we are going to do,” Williams said.

“I don’t think now is the time to rip everything up and bring in a new team.

“We have players in mind. We are talking to clubs and agents of players. We are quite advanced with the preparation.”

Swansea are again likely to be in the market for at least one dynamic wide player in January having missed out on targets in that position in August.

A goalscoring centre-forward would also be a welcome addition, though they are notoriously hard to come by in January windows.

With financial resources limited, Swansea looked primarily overseas for new faces last summer, when they signed the likes of Eom Ji-Sung, Goncalo Franco and Zan Vipotnik.

Last January they brought in Brazilian winger Ronald having spotted him at Portuguese club Estrela da Amadora – and there could be similar moves next month.

“We are still in that space because we have to explore every avenue so we don’t compete on the same territory all the time as our competitors [in the Championship],” Williams said.

“We are all the time trying to find niche players who suit what we want, and be brave enough to go with that even if others aren’t chasing down the same player.

“I wouldn’t be surprised if a player comes from anywhere in Europe or Africa or Asia.”

Falkirk right-back Keelan Adams is one player who has been touted as a potential target in January, though Williams says he does not know whether Swansea are monitoring the 23-year-old.

Williams declined to reveal which positions he wants to strengthen, but added: “We are ready to strike as soon as the window opens.

“I don’t want to give the impression that something’s all signed and we are just waiting for the window to open, because we still have to wait for the other parties to be in the place where they are ready to commit.”

Williams, whose side go to Hull City in the Championship on Saturday (12:30 GMT), says some fringe players could depart next month while acknowledging that others “may be lured away by other clubs”, though there has been no interest as yet.
