Man dies after skid-steer loader falls through pond ice in southeast Manitoba

STEINBACH, MANITOBA, CANADA — Mounties in Manitoba are investigating a death involving a skid-steer loader and ice.

Steinbach RCMP say early on the afternoon of Christmas Eve they received a report that the loader had fallen through the ice on a pond in the rural municipality of Hanover.

They were told a 58-year-old man was operating the loader on the pond when it went through the frozen surface.

The man’s body was recovered later that day with the help of the Hutterian Emergency Aquatic Response Team.

Steinbach and the RM of Hanover are southeast of Winnipeg.
