Air Canada’s New Carry-On Bag Fees – Peter Greenberg Travel Detective

Must read

I’ve always said that friends don’t let friends fly basic economy. And now, here’s another reason. Just when you thought airline charges couldn’t get worse, one airline will now start charging for carry-on bags.

If you’re flying basic economy on Air Canada, the airline will charge extra if you bring on any carry-on bag larger than a handbag.

The charge will be $25 for the first piece of carry-on luggage — and that includes any bag with rollers or wheels, or any oversized backpack.

The second carry-on bag will cost $36. If you don’t register these bags before you get to the airport, you’ll be hit with an additional $46 charge.

So, check the basic airfares first. It might be cheaper to spend $30 more for the next class up from basic economy.
