Edmonton – Tech – Dale Nally, Minister of Service Alberta and Red Tape Reduction, is set to travel to Las Vegas to take part in a panel discussion at the Global Gaming Expo (G2E) from October 7-10, 2024.

The conference, organized by the American Gaming Association, is the world’s leading casino industry exhibition, drawing gaming executives, operators, suppliers, and industry professionals from across the globe.

The event offers a prime opportunity to explore the latest trends in the global gaming industry, including the rapid expansion of iGaming and advancements in technology and consumer protection. With over 25,000 industry professionals from 115 countries expected to attend, the conference will focus on attracting new markets, adapting to emerging regulations, and improving safeguards for online gaming participants.

Alberta’s Push to Expand iGaming

Minister Nally’s participation comes at a crucial time for Alberta, as the province continues to shape its regulated iGaming strategy. The goal is to establish a safe and successful online gambling environment, and the G2E conference presents an opportunity to gather key insights from industry experts on the future of iGaming.

“As we continue to build our iGaming strategy, we want to work with industry to ensure that Alberta’s regulated iGaming market is set up to succeed, making online gambling safer in our province. This event is an excellent opportunity to gather ideas and knowledge to support this goal,” said Minister Nally.

Alberta’s iGaming Landscape

In Alberta, the Alberta Gaming, Liquor and Cannabis (AGLC) is responsible for overseeing and regulating all gaming activities. Currently, PlayAlberta is the province’s only legal, regulated online gambling platform, managed by AGLC.

Over the summer, the provincial government held discussions with First Nations partners, land-based casino operators, and Racing Entertainment Centre operators to better understand their views on expanding Alberta’s iGaming strategy. The government aims to ensure that this strategy serves the best interests of all Albertans and provides economic opportunities for the province.
