Barcelona expecting response from club captain’s representatives in couple of weeks – report

Barcelona are currently awaiting a decision from Ronald Araujo and his agents on the club’s offer to extend his contract, which is set to expire in 2026.

In that regard, reports from Mundo Deportivo reveal that the Blaugrana have been in discussions with Araujo’s representatives for months and they are no expecting a response in next couple of weeks.

The club initially proposed a contract extension some time ago, and although Araujo has not replied, there appears to be a promising shift in his stance.

This change could be influenced by Barcelona’s recent progress under manager Hansi Flick, who has brought renewed energy and ambition to the squad.

New meeting scheduled

Looking ahead, a meeting between Barcelona and Araujo’s representatives is expected next week or the week after, depending on the availability of both parties.

Barcelona are optimistic about securing Araujo’s commitment, given the substantial contract renewal offer they presented earlier.

The club believes that the team’s improved performance this season has strengthened their position in negotiations.

Under Flick, Barcelona have shown they can compete at a high level and aim for major trophies, which could be an appealing factor for Araujo.

Barcelona will not let him go… for free

It must be noted that Araujo attracted interest from Bayern Munich and one of the key reasons he considered the offer was because of their strong standing in the Bundesliga. However, Barcelona’s current trajectory might be enough to sway his decision.

Barcelona’s sporting director, Deco, recently spoke with Araujo, who is in the final phase of his recovery, to reinforce the club’s desire to keep him and urge him to make a decision soon.

The club’s primary goal is to retain Araujo, as they see him as a crucial part of their future plans. However, if he decides not to renew, Barcelona will expect him to bring in a substantial transfer fee, around €100 million, next summer.

The club is determined not to lose him on a free transfer, ensuring they gain financially if he chooses to pursue his career elsewhere.
