Bold add second commitment from Ottawa’s Aislin McBurney
The Bold women’s basketball team announced their second signing of the 2024 recruiting cycle, picking up a commitment from forward Aislin McBurney. McBurney, who hails from Ottawa, played high school basketball at Cairine Wilson Secondary School as well as for Capital Courts Academy.
“Aislin’s addition will bring added depth to our team, (she has a) tireless work ethic, and positive energy that will impact our environment right away,” said head coach Carly Clarke of the Bold’s newest member. “That, combined with her ability to defend multiple positions, make her a perfect fit for our system.”
In her high school career, McBurney racked up awards. She was named City Finals MVP and won the Jr. Female Athlete of the Year in 2022. McBurney was also named a Juel Prep All-Star during her time with the Ottawa squad.
“I’m a very competitive and hard-working athlete no matter what sport or activity I’m competing in,” said McBurney after signing with the Bold. “I like to play fast and physically at all times whether it be a drill, scrimmage, or game. I do this by using my athleticism and strength.”
McBurney has some familiarity with her Bold teammates, having played with Catrina Garvey and Hannah Watson during McBurney’s first season with Capital Courts.
“I love to learn so getting the opportunity to compete against the rest of the girls and expand my skills/knowledge of the game every day is exactly what I needed in a school and found at TMU,” said McBurney when asked why she chose the Bold. “The school aspect is in the heart of Toronto, which is full of opportunities, and living there has been a dream of mine for so long.”
McBurney will look to help the Bold improve on their OUA semi final finish last season when the season tips off on October 25th on the road against Nipissing.
