‘Bring it back’: ‘Schitt’s Creek’ fans go absolutely wild as cast reunites to close out Emmy Awards

Must read

With Canadian stars Dan and Eugene Levy slated to co-host the 2024 Emmy Awards on Sunday night, and Catherine O’Hara scheduled to present the award for outstanding comedy series, it seemed inevitable that fans would be blessed with a Schitt’s Creek reunion at some point during the show.

As the night crawled to a close, however, that hope started to fade.

But, just as it appeared the highly anticipated reunion would have to wait, the father-son duo, in both the series and real life, brought Annie Murphy to the stage — who played Alexis Rose (Eugene’s daughter and Dan’s sister) in the hit sitcom.

The three actors embraced, laughed, and briefly engaged in some classic show-style banter, before introducing O’Hara (Moira Rose) to present her award as fans in-person and across the Internet rejoiced.

Although the reunion was short and sweet, fans, fully in their feelings, flooded social media to share the moment with each other.

“The mini Schitt’s Creek reunion was the best of the night,” one fan wrote.

“This was such a lovely way to close out the night. Because only seeing half of Schitt’s Creek didn’t feel right,” Another post on social platform “X” read.

“CRYING AT THIS SCHITT’S CREEK REUNION I LOVE THEM SO MUCH,” posted another.

“It’s so heartwarming to see the Schitt’s Creek family reunite like they never left our screens,” Read another post.

“Crying at the Schitt’s Creek reunion 😭❤️,” wrote another fan.

The reunion not only had fans losing themselves in memories and nostalgia, but also yearning for a return, reboot or spin-off of the hit series.

“I wish this show would come back!” One X user replied

Another fan wrote: I have never wanted a Schitt’s Creek reboot or movie more in my life. This is all too much in the best way!

“Bring it back … it had the perfect ending but I miss that show so bad at least give me a movie or something …” Another poster wrote.

“I have never wanted a Schitt’s Creek reboot or movie more in my life. This is all too much in the best way!” Another social post read.

“So disappointing that seeing the #SchittsCreek fabulous 4 on stage together at the #Emmys2024 didn’t lead to the announcement of a reunion movie or miniseries! I need to see the Roses (with Patrick, Ted, Twyla and Mutt) reunite!” said another user on X.

While a reboot or movie adaptation is not currently in the works and nothing of the sort has been confirmed by any of the cast or crew, some close to the show have told fans not to rule that possibility out.

“It’s something that we know there’s demand and interest for it, really. It’s something that I know Dan and Eugene [Levy] are considering all the time, and I think it’s going to be a timing thing,” Schitt’s Creek executive producer Andrew Barnsley told The Messenger in 2023.

“The fear is: does it tarnish the legacy to go back and revisit them in the way that maybe the Entourage movie did?” Barnsley added.

Co-star, co-writer and co-creator, Dan Levy, told E! News last December: “I love the fact that people want more, but it has to beat what we’ve done, and that’s a tough thing to do. So until the idea comes to me, who knows?

“But if it means people go back and watch the show from the beginning, not a bad thing.”

Levy and his father, Eugene, drew seemingly unanimous praise for their hosting job on Sunday, with fans especially fawning over various parts of their hilarious opening monologue.

While their opening monologue had the masses howling, the father-son duo demonstrated their immaculate chemistry throughout the evening.

It was the first time ever a father and son duo had hosted the Emmys, and boy did it go well.

The hit Canadian series, which remains one of the most streamed shows to this day, had a six-season run from 2015 to 2020.

The sitcom won a total of nine Emmys, including a massive haul at the 72nd Primetime Emmys Awards 2020, where it achieved a historic sweep by winning all seven categories it was nominated for, including outstanding comedy series, outstanding lead actor in a comedy series (Eugene Levy), outstanding lead actress in a comedy series (Catherine O’Hara), outstanding supporting actor in a comedy series (Daniel Levy), and Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series (Annie Murphy).
