Canada and Finland meet in the second tie of Group D of the 2024 Davis Cup Finals qualifiers in Manchester, England. The tie is scheduled for Thursday, September 12, 2024. Here’s our Canada vs Finland prediction.

Canada vs Finland Davis Cup Preview

Canada opened their Group D campaign on a winning note as they defeated Argentina 2-1. Team captain Frank Dancevic managed to get the band together for a potential title challenge this year, meaning both Denis Shapovalov and Felix Auger-Aliassime, who were integral in securing the country’s first-ever Davis Cup success in 2022, were recalled.

Shapovalov got Canada on the board on Tuesday by beating Francisco Cerundolo in straight sets. Auger-Aliassime also won in straight sets by beating clay-court specialist Sebastian Baez. It’s clear that the surface played a huge part in the final result with the indoor conditions favoring the Canadians. Argentina’s win in the tie was in doubles.

Finally, meanwhile, they lost their first tie against Great Britain in front of a raucous crowd in Manchester. At the time of writing, Finland had lost their opening two singles rubbers, meaning that their final doubles match would not change the outcome. Therefore, they enter this clash against the Canadians, knowing that defeat will end their hopes of clinching a spot in the Finals later in the season.

Canada vs Finland Davis Cup Head-To-Head

• Canada and Finland are tied at 1-1 in Davis Cup matches. They first met in 1966 when Canada won 4-1 in Helsinki, but the Finns got revenge over half a century later in Malaga last year.

Canada vs Finland Davis Cup Prediction

It’s no secret that the absence of Emil Ruusuvuori has hurt Finland big time in the Davis Cup qualifying draw. Otto Virtanen and Eero Vasa just don’t have the quality to hurt Canada’s two powerhouses in Auger-Aliassime and Shapovalov, who should be tasked to lead the line in singles. This should be a comfortable afternoon for the 2022 champions, and I can see this being a complete whitewash where Canada will banish the memories of last year’s shock defeat to Finland in Malaga.
