Canada’s Gabriel Diallo qualifies for Hong Kong Tennis Open

Canada’s Gabriel Diallo is off to a good start in his 2025 season.

The Montreal native won a pair of matches to qualify for the Hong Kong Tennis Open, the first event of the season.

The No. 2 seed in qualifying, Diallo beat No. 8 seed Hugo Grenier of France 4-6, 6-1, 7-5 on Monday to secure his spot in the main draw.

Diallo, ranked 87th in the world, will face world No. 57 Roberto Carballes Baena in the opening round on Tuesday.

Denis Shapovalov of Richmond Hill, Ont., also plays his first-round match on Tuesday against Kei Nishikori of Japan.

Diallo, 23, had a promising 2024, highlighted by a runner-up showing at the Almaty Open in October after a run to the third round at the U.S. Open.
