CIMA+ and Hatch were recipients of the 2024 Project Award in the megaprojects category from FIDIC (International Federation of Consulting Engineers) at its Global Infrastructure Conference in Geneva for their contributions to the South Shore segment of the Réseau express métropolitain (REM) project, the only Canadian project to receive an award.
The project aimed to modernize transportation between downtown Montreal and the South Shore to meet growing mobility needs with a sustainable and automated system. The award showcases, rewards, and promotes the achievements and successes of consulting engineering member firms and their clients, highlighting the important impact the projects have on social, economic, and environmental quality of life.
“Our collaboration on the REM mobilized more than 250 CIMA+ professionals and implemented innovative management tools. The project helps reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 16,800 tons per year and has generated significant social and economic benefits. This project, which we are proud to have collaborated on, embodies a concrete example of our commitment to building a sustainable world and our tradition of excellence,” said Denis Thivierge, president and CEO of CIMA+.
The Réseau express métropolitain (REM) project is No. 9 on ReNew Canada’s 2024 Top100 Projects report.
CDPQ Infra selected CIMA+ and Hatch (CCH) as owner’s engineers to conduct the project’s preliminary studies, environmental study, the design of the Mount Royal Tunnel rehabilitation, and the overall preliminary conceptual design. We also prepared the tender documents for a design-build and later performed the detailed design reviews and oversaw implementation, technical support, site supervision, related projects procurement, project controls, and overall monitoring. CCH partnered with the client in all three segments of the project.
“The REM South Shore segment receiving the FIDIC Project Award 2024 is a testament to the dedication and collaborative efforts of our team, our partners, and CDPQ Infra,” said Jean-Christophe Belisle, Hatch’s regional director, Infrastructure. “This recognition exemplifies Hatch’s commitment to delivering sustainable and innovative infrastructure solutions that enhance the quality of life for communities. The award celebrates the engineering excellence and hard work involved, underscoring the significant social, economic, and environmental benefits the project brings. We are proud to have played a role in modernizing transportation in Montreal and contributing to a greener, more connected future.”
CIMA+ and Hatch thanked CDPQ Infra for its trust, as well as SETEC Canada, STGM architecture, and LEGICO for their significant collaboration in the success of the project.
