D’Angelo Russell: ‘I used to think the world was going to end’

Must read

.

D’Angelo Russell: ‘I remember my brother would go to school learn some sh*t, come back scaring the sh*t out of me. The San Andreas movie came out and I was just like bro like this sh*t can happen and we just can do nothing about it. (…) I used to think the world was going to end, bro. I remember my granny, I would come home from school, I remember this happened in first, second grade, I came home one day and I was just crying to my granny and I was like ‘they saying the world’s going in granny’ and she was like don’t worry ‘there ain’t no expiration date on the world ending, ain’t no expiration date on the world’ she kept saying that and I was just like ‘dang, okay that makes sense’.

D’Angelo Russell on how long it took him to get over the Nets trading him in 2019:

“As soon as I left, I understood the business of it because I was going somewhere that laid out an opportunity as well. So there was no spite, no hard feelings there. Nothing to really get over.” – 12:57 PM

More on this storyline

Erik Slater: Sean Marks on reacquiring D’Angelo Russell: “I know he’s excited to be back here. There’s something to be said for the continuity of knowing what you’re getting into. He’s familiar… We’ll welcome him back with open arms. He’s a heck of a talent.” (📽️: @YESNetwork) pic.x.com/KTXKspnCfW -via Twitter @erikslater_ / January 2, 2025

This season has been the first time Russell has been primarily a reserve, coming off the bench in 19 of his past 21 games. But now, he has that chance to lead again. “I was just focusing on trying to be out there in my short time and just feel free to hoop. I was so grateful out there versus worrying about everything else. I was just grateful to be out there and play basketball,” said Russell, who already picked up things about where his new teammates want the ball or how they like to play. -via New York Post / January 2, 2025

Russell never wanted to leave Brooklyn the first time and was vexed after being traded. But now, he claims there was no hatchet to bury. “Honestly, as soon as I left … I understood the business of it,” Russell said. “So, it was no spite, no hard feelings there, nothing to really get over.” -via New York Post / January 2, 2025
